The unit can be tailored to specific needs with a wide range of friction materials, compounds, button arrangements, and clamp ratings ranging from 1500 to 4000lbs. The materials used are of the highest grade, with sourcing from Australia, Japan, or the USA. Supplied as a clutch and flywheel assembly, the Direct Clutch 8" billet system has proven to be durable in rigorous applications and is economical to rebuild when necessary. The billet single, twin, and triple plate units can be customized to a specific target weight and are recommended for light weight in constant high RPM applications like circuits, speedways, and marine use. Heavier options are suggested for street, drift, drag, and all-around use, with recent successes seen in drag racing and drifting applications. The unit is offered in three general series: Street Series, Competition Series, and Sintered Series, each with specific disc options and clamp settings to suit different performance needs. For build time, components are usually on hand to build popular combinations, with a usual build time of 24 hours from the time of order. For applications exceeding 1200hp, the Direct Clutch Billet 9³ Race Clutch Series is recommended. Additional information about the 8³ billet system includes the use of solid/unsprung clutch hubs for lighter and faster shifts, and the unit's incompatibility with conversion involving cut and welded bell housings due to misalignment issues.
